About BackupMate

BackupMate is made by BuzzNeuron, for offices that want their files backed up properly and kept on their own premises.

Why it exists

Small offices tend to have either no backup at all, or one that nobody has tested. The tools that do the job well are built for people who run servers for a living; the ones that are easy to use want your files in someone else's data centre and a payment every month.

BackupMate is meant for the office in between: ten or thirty PCs, somebody who looks after them part-time, and data that would end the business if it were lost. It should take an afternoon to set up, run without attention, say clearly when something is wrong, and come with someone to ask.

What we promise

• Your files stay with you. We do not run a cloud and we never receive your data.
• Restore is never held back. Whatever you have backed up, you can get back, whether or not you are paying us.
• We say what it does not do. The features and security pages each end with the limits.
• No lock-in. Backups are stored in the open format of Kopia, a widely used open-source backup engine. With your passphrase, they can be read without us.
